Epson Adjustment Program, Maintenance Reset Utility or WIC on a Mac: what actually runs

Updated 2026-10-18·4 min read
Short answer

Epson's Adjustment Program and Epson's one-time Maintenance Reset Utility are Windows programs with no macOS version. WIC Reset Utility's site lists a Mac version for Intel Macs. Boot Camp only works on Intel Macs. VNIT Reset Tool has a native Mac app for macOS 11 and newer on both Intel and Apple silicon (M1 and later), with a free counter check and one free trial reset per printer.

The short answer

Most tools that reset the Epson waste ink pad counter were written for Windows. If your computer is a MacBook, iMac or Mac mini, check which one you are downloading before you spend time on it.

Epson Adjustment Program (service software) No Windows service software for technicians. No macOS version. What it is
Epson Maintenance Reset Utility (one-time reset from Epson America) No Reported as Windows only, with no macOS version (The Register, 2022)
WIC Reset Utility Intel Macs Its official site lists “MAC OS 10.5 Intel and higher” (checked 18/10/2026). Check with them about Apple silicon. Compared

Can I run the Windows tools on my Mac anyway?

  • Boot Camp installs Windows next to macOS, but Apple’s Boot Camp Assistant only works on Intel Macs. Macs with an Apple chip (M1 and later) cannot use it.
  • A virtual machine (software that runs Windows in a window) can run some Windows programs on a Mac. A reset tool also has to reach the printer over USB through the virtual machine, which adds a layer that can fail. We have not tested this, so we cannot promise it works.

Either route means installing and maintaining Windows just to clear one counter.

What a Mac user needs

  1. A tool built for macOS. On first launch macOS asks you to confirm in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway; that is normal for apps downloaded outside the App Store.
  2. A USB cable to the printer (many MacBooks need a USB-C to USB-B cable or adapter). Wi-Fi works on some older models only: in our own reset logs, resets over Wi-Fi went through on the L805, L3150 and L5190, while newer models such as the L3250, L5290 and ET-2800 refused counter commands over Wi-Fi and needed USB. Which models, measured
  3. A minute to read the counter first. It shows each pad as a percentage, so you know the reset is what your printer needs.

After the reset

The reset clears the number, not the pads. Check them, and wash or replace them or fit an external waste tank if they are soaked. What to do with the pads.
