How VNIT Reset Tool works

Why the printer stops

Every head cleaning and every borderless page sends a little ink to absorbent pads inside the printer. The printer keeps a running count. When the count reaches the limit set at the factory, it stops and shows an error such as “The printer's ink pads are at the end of their service life”, “Service Required”, or blinking lights on models without a screen.

Many printers keep more than one counter, for example a main pad and a platen pad near the paper path. The tool reads all of them and shows each one.

The four steps

1. 01Download and unzip · freeOne zip for Windows 10 and 11, or a separate build for Windows 7 and 32-bit Windows. No installer, no admin rights.
2. 02Read the counter · freeThe tool shows the model, the serial number and how full each counter is. It asks our server for the settings of your exact model, so the computer needs internet.
3. 03Try one reset · freeAt 90% or above, the trial lowers the counter to 85%. Once per printer. Details.
4. 04Reset to 0% · US$6 keyEnter your key and reset. Then switch the printer off and on so it reads the new value.

Connecting the printer

Use a USB cable: it works on every supported printer. Switch the printer on and wait until it is quiet before you press Check.

Resetting over Wi-Fi is newer. It only applies to printers that have Wi-Fi built in. If your printer is not found over Wi-Fi, connect the cable.

What it does not do

• It does not clean the pads. The ink they have absorbed stays there. What to do with the pads.
• It does not fix print quality. Streaks or missing colours come from the print head. The tool has head cleaning and nozzle check buttons that may help.
• It does not change firmware. It writes the counter values only.
• It cannot reset maintenance-box models. Those use a replaceable box with a chip. Check your model.
