Is VNIT Reset Tool safe?
Yes. It is a small Windows tool written and licensed by VNIT, a printer repair company in Ho Chi Minh City. Windows or some antivirus programs may warn about it because it is not code-signed yet. You can check the file is genuine with the SHA-256 on our download page.
“Windows protected your PC”
Windows SmartScreen shows this for programs that are not signed with a code-signing certificate or that few people have downloaded yet. It is not a virus detection. Click More info, check the file is the one from our site, then click Run anyway.
Antivirus warnings
Some antivirus programs flag small tools built with Python packagers by mistake, especially with generic names such as “Heur”, “Gen” or “ML”. Other printer reset tools get the same treatment. We report each false detection to the antivirus vendor. If yours blocks the tool:
- Check the file's SHA-256 matches the one below.
- Add the tool's folder to your antivirus exclusions. In Windows Security: Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions → Add an exclusion → Folder.
- Tell us which antivirus flagged it, so we can report it.

What it changes in your printer
Only the waste ink counter values. It does not install drivers, change firmware or touch anything else. The tool also has head cleaning and nozzle check buttons, which send the same commands as the printer's own maintenance menu.
The real risk with any reset is ignoring the pads. A reset does not remove ink from them. Check the pads after a reset.
What it sends to our server
The printer model, serial number, a computer ID, the key used and the result of each reset. We use this to check keys, count free trials and help when something goes wrong. It does not read or send documents or anything you print. Privacy policy.
